FIYO believes that in order to have a prosperous society, education has to be the major pillar to the development of the country. FIYO has organized activities in several districts including KICUKIRO, GASABO, NYARUGENGE, KAMONYI, and GICUMBI to promote STEM education. Various initiatives has been put up by FIYO to promote STEM in schools and they include;
Key activities implemented
Through theater and drama, FIYO organizes sensitization campaigns to encourage students to be engaged in STEM courses.
These activities are done by students in STEM clubs to motivate and inspire their fellow students to pursue STEM careers.
FIYO forms STEM clubs in schools to get students more interested in STEM Subjects. these clubs offer an opportunity to students to network and discover more about STEM fields.
Currently 15 STEM clubs have been formed, and 1,230 students have joined STEM Clubs of which 60% are girls.
MUTONI Lilian is one of the students that joined the club and she said that "her dream was to become a pilot and in order to reach her goals, she needs to learn and innovate new methods and calculations and STEM subjects are the only way to reach that.
This activity aims to increase student interest and participation in STEM fields by creating and supporting STEM Clubs in 15 secondary schools which are formed.
FIYO invites successful women to speak about their careers and their journey in STEM careers. these women in STEM careers inspire young girls to enroll in STEM fields.
Currently 20 women in STEM careers have had a session with these students in STEM clubs and the activity is still going on.
The main goal for the study tours is to relate STEM Subjects in our daily lives. They also help students to learn about the different career opportunities that are available in STEM fields
Tours are made to industries, companies that are related to STEM, Factories, universities and colleges related to STEM.
Each Year, FIYO celebrates the achievement of women in STEM through acknowledging the vital contributions women have made throughout history to the field of Mathematics. through this occasion, FIYO organizes an Inter-school STEM competition aimed at inspiring future generations of STEM.
By doing so, FIYO aims to pay tribute to the accomplishments of women in STEM Careers and inspiring future generations, challenge stereotypes and provide tangible role models to young students.
