Literacy projects for Gatsibo,Nyagatare and Kayonza Districts 

5,404 of which 80% were women graduated with basic skills on how to read, write and count. FIYO organized a general sensitization campaign for the adult literacy program for communities that didn't have acess to formal education in the three districts of kayonza, Nyagatare and Gatsibo. In attendance, 500 inhabitants,  Mr. Gahigi Moses, The Executive Director of FIYO, highlighted that FIYO was committed to empower the  community of the districts through education. In particular, 200 beneficiaries from the  community will be enrolled to literacy classes. In addition, the residents of the potters community will be sensitized on different Government programs namely: fighting gender based violence, joining cooperatives, family planning, hygiene, nutrition and HIV/AIDS prevention and environment protection.


He called upon maximum support from different stakeholders namely: local and church leaders, He pointed out that the project was being funded by AusAid.
In his welcome message, the Executive Secretary of Cyaruzinge Sector thanked FIYO for coming up with this important idea of eradicating illiteracy among the communities  of the three districts. He promised maximum support and collaboration with FIYO to successfully implement the project. He also thanked AusAid for generously funding the project. One member of the crowd, Ms. Nyirabapfakurera Anathasie expressed support to the project. 

She said“I will be the first to register for the literacy classes and will follow all lessons attentively…. when I graduate, I will start up a small business since then I will be able to count and write”.
The crowd was entertained by an art performance staged by a celebrate artist Kanyombya and group which a carried a message of the benefits of literacy.
